Apple or Mangosteen ?



We have known about the benefits of apples for a long time as the saying goes,
“An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” That is because apples are easy to eat and convenient to bring anywhere. An apple’s aroma is refreshing.

Their simple sugars such as glucose, sucrose and fructose can be quickly absorbed.  Apples are good for the heart because of their soluble dietary fiber “pectin”, which helps prevent harmful cholesterol such as LDL from attaching to artery walls.

It also helps protect us from heart disease. Apples also contain insoluble dietary fiber, which retains water to help clean the intestines.  Apples contain calcium and phosphorus, which are necessary for bone development, as well as high levels of potassium, which is used to regulate the body’s pH. Apples also contain many
nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and proteins.



A mangosteen, a kind of Thai fruit, has a sweet and slightly sour flavor, which has an appealing taste to both foreigners and Thais.

A mangosteen contains a simple molecule sugars such as fructose, glucose as well as sucrose to give an energy boost. Just like apples, mangosteens also have dietary fiber as well as high potassium. A mangosteen can also help treat wounds in the mouth caused by eating durians.  The potassium in mangosteens could counteract the sulfur in Durians. Mangosteens also contain nutrients such as protein, iron, vitamin B1, vitamin C, and magnesium, twice as much as this found in apples.

Unlike apples, mangosteens also contain zinc(Zn); which helps in iron absorption. Zinc is also a component of more than 70 enzymes, as well as being required for DNA synthesis.

Furthermore, the nutrient rich, pure white delicate fruit and the mangosteen juice contain 4 types of Xantone:

Alpha–mangostin, 8-Desoxygartaine, Gertanin and 3—Isomangostin.


A report investigating these substances has noted that they can delay or stop Leukemia and the growth of cancer cells. There is also a report suggesting they can prevent of oxidation of bad LDL, which contributes to heart disease.  Perhaps we could say,
“A mangosteen a day will keep cancer away”
